A Cessna 172 equipped with ADS-B tail beacon is showing up on tablet using a Stratux receiver but is not showing up here on adsbexchange. Other airplanes at the same airport are showing up here. What could cause this?
978 MHz vs 1090 MHz. adsbexchange has many more 1090 MHz feeders than 978 MHz feeders. Buy a Raspberry Pi and a SDR and an antenna, set it up to receive and feed 978 MHz. Then it will show up
I assumed that since all the other general aviation airplanes in the area are showing up, there must already be coverage. This one shows up as ADS-R, while everyone else is ADS-B. Trying to understand what is going on.
Different frequencies. The plane in question is using ADS-B over UAT on 978 MHz. The other planes are transmitting ADS-B via a ModeS transponder / Extended Squitter on 1090 MHz. A single receiver can only receive either 978 MHz or 1090 MHz. Most planes are on 1090 MHz, UAT is relatively new. Thus most receivers are receiving only 1090 MHz.
I am going to consider setting up a 978 stream here in my area (near KRDU). Many of the GA aircraft are installing the low cost tail beacons and apparently because they are on 978, I am not seeing them. The ones I am seeing are apparently on 1090. I really appreciate the answers shared here, it has greatly helped my understanding.
