It is quite useful to be able to access one's feed whilst away from home network. Appreciate it is not too difficult to open ports on a router but the adsbX and FA system negate that need. Although similar there are differences as one has to be logged in to FA's system to access the feed whereas asdbX doesn't have a login. What are the network and/or security differences between the two systems? Geoff
Both pages don't use any resources from the local receiver directly. Rather the data is uploaded to servers and accessed from there. I'm not sure what security you're talking about but maybe the above answered your questions. Leaking user IPs ... would be bad and neither page does something like that. Not needing a login also means you can share your receiver view with other people easily.
Asked recently on FA forum if it was possible to share Skyaware with maybe other users within my 'Flight Crew' group. The reply I got was The answer of FA was always “no” for security reasons. I wasn't sure how remote data was enabled, I know a lot of home video cams open a route via their own servers re an established or associated connection. Geoff
Security? That's a bullshit reason. Do you know the real reason? FlightAware makes millions of dollars selling obfuscation and removing traffic from display. Security as a reason is a lie. There is no route to your feeder. There is no login. There is no requirement for your feeder to have an ADSBexchange Anywhere. FlightAware copied the ADSBexchange Anywhere poorly, then made it not useful for sharing with your friends. Which is the exact reason ADSBexchange Anywhere was created in the first place, to view and share your feed without 'opening ports'. FlightAware is a suite of gimmicks disguised as a marketed fake 'enterprise value' so feeders don't question them making hundreds of millions of dollars a month from the feeder data. FlightCrew is another gimmick to get more FlightAware feeders and make even more money as people compete as tribal groups to 'defeat' another tribal group while Baker cashes out to Raytheon for hundreds of millions of dollars. Brainwashing for profit. Smoke and mirrors to fool the foolish. Tell your FlightCrew cronies to feed ADSBx and enjoy unfiltered no bullshit data. https://www.adsbexchange.com/how-to-feed/ Share your feed with your crew using the ADSBx Anywhere link. You can even merge feeds. https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?fee...F_-YQ1,RJ2WNphdo0sq,2ojiftb8_Dkk,u-YJYntKBgT_ FlightAWare is a joke and you are the punch line. https://www.adsbexchange.com/map-help/ Not to mention FlightAware clearly has deals with CCP controlled VariFlight. http://www.variflight.com/en/newsDetails/1_8.html
I do feed adsbX and am also happy to feed FA and FR24 Whilst I do wonder who would pay the monthly or annual fees for the various subscriptions they do offer some useful enthusiast functions and each compliment the other feeder services. That is merely my opinion. Geoff
I know I won't convince anyone that FA, FR24, etc are bad for enthusiasts and bad for this hobby in general. Even when they are blatantly working against them, people are blinded by the 'free' gimmicks.
I cannot see how they are bad. Flightaware got me in to the hobby of ADS-B, their forum has been very helpful in solving Raspberry Pi and feeding issues. Had I not got interested in ADS-B via FA I would never have been aware of adsb-x Certain sites have advantages, doesn't necessarily mean one has to stop feeding one or the other. Geoff
