Hello fine Folks, I was curious about Flight tracking and thought to give it a try. Well, and here I am. So, what we got? We got a Raspberry Pi 3 with the ADS-B Exchange image and a RTL-SDR.COM V3 with a really tiny (very tiny) indoor antenna. I thought for a first try that should be good enough and what do you know, after a 10 minute setup it is working. I can't see far, about 100 miles: I do have a question. In the package with the RTL-SDR.COM V3 there was a little paper that said "The SDR is set to receive VHF/UHF by default. To activate HF reception or enable bias Tee, please see the feature guide." Is that something I need to worry about? I assume I don't but I thought I better ask ;-)
That is pretty good, 100 miles with an indoor antenna. I am in residential London (No high rises nearby) and also with an indoor standard antenna get around 80 miles. Same address but move equipment outside with antenna attached to roof of car and range goes up to over 100 miles. Welcome to the hobby, combines interest in computers and flight tracking. Geoff
