A lot has gone on in a year, this will be just a quick one.

If you haven't seen the fancy new ADSBx image yet, it makes setting up your device dead simple using a web interface! Rock on!

    ESRI MAP TILE ANNOUNCEMENT

ESRI has requested ADSBexchange.com remove the map tiles. Based on their sales executive's provided pricing, the cost to continue to use ESRI map tiles would total or exceed $57,000 a month. Pricing is "pay as you go" for 0.15 per 1000 tiles served, no caching permitted.

Their tile policy is that even if we pay for usage, license terms forbid caching tiles to reduce the fees to a reasonable level that could support the ADSBexchange.com map requests. ADSBx appreciates that ESRI has costs that need to be covered.

For a fraction of $57,000 a month (that's $684,000 a year) we could buy many of our own servers, hire employees, and run our own commercial map tile business - if we ultimately had to.

ESRI sales executive response to a mutually beneficial agreement.
    • Because your website is support by either ads or a paid plan option your application falls under our commercial terms.
    • Our terms of service do not allow proxy/caching (pg 16 – B.1.f)
Thus we are removing ESRI layers and will look into running our own system like we do for OSM.

    Thanks for being patient.
