Canadian Snowbirds not using ADS-B/Mode-S ?

First off - very tragic that accident in BC a few days ago. I wish the pilot a speedy recovery, and peace and comfort to the passenger's family.

While they were doing a series of tribute flights over major centers, I tried tracking them with ADSBExchange, and they never showed up. I see the Herc doing patterns over Winnipeg all the time. I see the RCMP running sweeps every now and then. I can follow US drones watching the US / Canada border.

    But no Snowbirds.

Aren't they 'required' to use at least Mode-S?

    Probably using Mode C
This means the only identification broadcast is the squawk.

ModeC without having clear aircraft identification isn't well suited for MLAT, so you won't see ModeC

I've noticed a particular Air Force helicopter that often flies right by my house about 500ft up, but it never shows up on ADS-B Exchange. Is Mode C a likely explanation for that one too?

And why doesn't Mode C work with MLAT? It's hard for me to figure out exactly how the transmissions work, but doesn't the plane regularly emit a signal? Is it often, like every second, or is it much more sporadic?
