I just had the combo 978/1090 antenna installed professionally 3 days ago and after 2 days of rain my reception went bad(was getting ~flights, now maybe get 1 and it is very close). I substituted a small window indoor antenna and my gear comes back up (see 8-10 flights as previous performance). I am suspecting a weatherproofing failure from the install. Has anyone else had a similar experience or guidance? thanks in advance, twilkers
Well the connection to the coax and the transition from connector to coax should optimally be wrapped with self fusing tape. Though if you have a good coax with a good connector it should seal by itself, some people add some dielectric grease in the connector. I haven't heard reports in regards to the antenna not being waterproof.
Thanks for the feedback. Just talked to my installer and he is coming back this week to fix. he did use self fusing tape, but we haven't had any sun, I have a heat gun he can use to pre fuse it.
Well i can only say that i haven't heard of issues with the antenna ... and you can never exclude defects. Anyhow ... inspection should reveal the faulty part hopefully.
Rain in the connector/cable. Had it happen once in AZ during a hard downpour. I waited a few days of sun and no issues. I've also had the sma end of cable pull the pin out if it's not secured.
