Hi all Does one know which version of VRS is currently running on adsbexchange? And are there any plans to update to the actual version 2.4.2. This version was released in June this year. Thanks
Upgraded to 2.4.2 running on Linux last night. Woke up to a dump truck load of complaints. We have no choice, Google Maps bill was $4040.
Well I don't like the new map, to dull for me, I prefer the skyview version if you're going for a non-Google map. Perhaps those behind ADSBx should consider ditching the idea of providing a free service and charge, I'm sure most would be happy to pay along the lines of $20-30 per year. In the UK and Europe we have 360Radar and non feeders pay around £8 (around $9) per quarter and it's pretty popular - of course not charging feeders help persuade users to feed - works both ways
The new Skyview is interesting but not made for something like a global map, but it's OSM with openlayers I think. I was going to see how efficient the SkyView UI is -- I think I can recreate the dump1090 json using our global feed and push it into a SkyView html to see what happens. We try to be open and make sure people that want/need the data can get it. We really don't want to charge enthusiasts. Plus some people send $5 a year and think they own your time 24 hours a day for that $5. Nobody complained about the custom feed servers .. it's the same map. LOL I think most of the labels people are bitching about can be changed with style sheet for leaflet.
https://b.tile.openstreetmap.org Skyview is OSM ... I"m not a huge fan of the grey map either. Need to find where this is in VRS
I would pay for adsbexchange. I am a lurker, not feeding. So i am thankful to have something like that. No filter, Lables where you could put 5 lines on and still useable. But these new lables sucks. Even if you selected a plane its lable got blocked by others. one line lables is useless. so... i would not pay a cent for the service the way is looks right now. i dont care about the map. i can handle every type of maps. the flight information is the important thing and in this case its the ols saying "never touch a running system". it made 5 steps back im my point of view.
Why are you complaining about new VRS design here? Reason to upgrade was clearly explained by James. Over 4000$ per month only for Google map layer is simply too much. Read carefuly main site: Some of the “big” flight tracking websites have reacted “negatively” to our approach, but this site was built for hobbyists, by hobbyists.
The problem of overlapping text is gone after 5 or 10 secounds. the lables are blocking for much longer time.
I really say f*** google maps. i dont care about the map. i can handle every maps. the lables were way smaller. if there is a chance and james could do something about it i would LOVE it and buy him a beer some day. this service is free, i hate it to learn how much money google wants and i agree to 100% with james and you.
