We're working on a better solution, it shoudl drop server load at current feeders level by 50-70% ... then we can work on MLAT We;re also working how to send stats to us - so feeders can check if we are getting your data and how much of it! It's going to get there; just takes time - only so many hours in the day for people who work free!
Or perhaps some middle ground. Keep the timeout as it is for those providing a custom feed but reduce it for those who are simply reading the data but not contributing. If I am going to contribute, I don't want to have to press a key every 2 minutes just to keep the picture on the screen. FR24 (which I also feed to) actually give contributors a business account which allows a download 24 hours a day, but I don't think that adsbex is ready for those kind of expenditures yet...
James, my comments were not meant as a criticism, and I am grateful for what you all do. I also support a website as an unpaid admin/volunteer so I know what the problems are. Fortunately I am retired but I still have other demands on my time.
I know, the point that I am making is that people will be less willing to contribute if they have difficulty accessing the data. Its taken me 4 hours to get onto my custom feed but I have got plenty of time today to spend working on it. Other times I might not have.
A local VRS installation would solve your issues. We can't turn the website on without a time out. Sorry. If you want to have the same data we give back to the feeders then you better write a monthly check to FA or FR24 for at least $10,000 every month. Good luck getting military or any interesting traffic. We don't have 'business accounts'. We're working on more things, but as I said before we have full time jobs and I can't stay awake 24 hours a day writing code that is not needed if someone would just install VRS locally and tap into our feed. If you are a programmer - it's all opensource - pick something and build it!
