It's all a bit confusing what's going on. I note a recent thread from James stating that VRS is RIP and it's all run by tar1090 now so does that mean that adsbexchange is effectively dead? I don't know where this puts the external database which was created specifically to replace the VRS one. I did edit a lot of the 777s to their correct identifiers in the external database so if you are seeing those changes on the map then that suggests there is connectivity between the two. I will write to Wiedehopf in a private message to see if I can get a better understanding of the current situation and where to go from here.

It's gonna be a bit before we get the external DB going.
But how does that mean adsbexchange is dead?

The live data are working very well.
Historical data for each aircraft is available as well in tar1090 which was not possible at reasonable cost with VRS.
We are gaining quite a bit of coverage at the moment, there was never a point in time with more feeders.

The DB used by tar1090 at the moment is also actively maintained by Mictronics.
(not for tar1090, it's his own project with his own consideration and i'm very grateful i can use that DB)
I'm not sure if he spends time looking at this thread ;)

Anyhow keeping the site and the live data going is the primary concern.
There are also nice pictures on the horizon somewhere :)

Im so confused how getting a completely new and better user interface somehow leads you to believe the project is dead. ADSB Exchange is in the best position it has ever been, let’s look at just a few of the facts.

Opened Social Media accounts and have over 2400 twitter fans in just 8 months.

    Broke 3000 feeders

Completely replaced map interface with upgraded tar1090 that has greatly reduced hosting costs.

Multiple backend improvements to data collection and MLAT.

Website has been rewritten and is now available, to at least some degree, in 8 different languages with translations ongoing.

And if after all that you still think the project is dead I invite you to come visit our highly active discord server. https://discord.gg/JJ6QC4c

I meant the site is dead as far as VRS functionality goes, which was what the original site was of course based on. I didn't mean the project as a whole. I'm well aware of the limitations of VRS as James had reminded me many hundreds of times . The tar1090 version is like taking it on to the next level.

I have spoken with Wiedehopf in PM and it's good news! :D The external database will be used after all, but will need work and time spending on it to interface it all together. That means the work I've done on it thus far won't have been in vain. I will go ahead and process the updates from up thread.

Skymaster, PSIMPSON and others : all updates over the past couple of pages DONE.

Skymaster: most of yours were already in correctly so not sure what's going on there. The H60 on the bottom of the previous page was still the Chinook so I've changed that to the H60 as indicated. Also the SeaRanger was the Texan so I've changed that and made a note about the Texan miscoding. It's also in under AE2.

PSIMPSON : that big list of 777s all changed and now in the database correctly.

To the other guy about frames being marked as 'interesting' or not. That is no longer a functionality of the new database so I can't change that. I guess that's coming from one of the 'other' databases and it will get sorted out after Wiedehopf works his magic.

All done :). See notes. What you're seeing live may be coming from a different database but everything above has been processed in the external database which I understand will (eventually) be the one used. If I understand correctly, the one in use is being provided by a third party called Mictronics so there will possibly be some overlap and discrepancies until things are straightened out.

    Hi King,
That makes sense in regards to what i am seeing on tar1090 is from the Mictronics database.
With all the above now updated by you in the external adsbx database, i will now stop collecting updates for B772/B773 aircrafts.

I still see a lot of B773s in the database that are B77Ws but it would take hours to fix them all. I'm OK for you to send them through in batches as you see them. You can just list the reg for those ones if you prefer as I can filter by reg, saves you typing out the hex. For any new additions please provide full info so I don't have to go looking for it. Don't need fancy format like FR24 forum, just a line with the following bits is fine : hex, reg, type code, full type, opr icao, opr, msn.

No worries, i will continue to collect B772s / B773s that need updating to B77L / B77W and send them through in batches.
Also any new additions i find, i will send through in the the format you have requested above.

I just did a quick filter of all the B773s in the database and there are still 796 records even after processing the ones today. I don't know how many true B773 non-ERs there are but I expect not more than 100 or so? That leaves about 700 frames still to change over *sigh*. I read a post on a forum or group a few months back that said it was PlaneBase responsible for this as they don't use the B77W tag even though that's the official identifier. The freighters look to be good from a quick scan down the B772 list as I'm not seeing any there. I think I may have done those already about 6 months back so they should be all correctly under B77L. There are no B77F tags in the database.

Actually, it seems I am wasting my time with this. When the external database first came online I went through the entire UAL fleet and fixed all the messed up type codes and model names and changed to their correct ones, eg. N59034 I changed to B77W Boeing 777-322ER and it's been reverted back to B773 Boeing 777 300ER . I've just checked the UAL operator tag and all 796 frames have been changed back to the same trash they were originally, clearly overwriting all my work. Until the link from PlaneBase is terminated then there is no point in making any edits because their trash is overwriting it all. Wiedehopf are you able to do anything about this or should I hold off until you give the green light ?

Really, i'm not in charge of the DB, i'll just facilitate using it.

Ask cab on the discord what happened ...
He's the one in charge of the DB.

    Thanks for that one.

I see it in the history, possibly flying out of Francis E Warren AFB, Cheyenne, WY?

Hi that be the one, I have a list UH-60's that flies out of the army national guard aviation facility on the north side if the base, not to be confused with U.S.A.F UH-1's not yet on adsb.

Are callsigns supposed to show in the history?

I can't say that I've seen any, and they're extremely useful.

That's not a Database edit request now, is it?
I'm working on extending the history data, right now it only has position data.

    Not exactly.
