Differences in number of planes shown?

  1. The export lines were already present in the script thanks

For shalom1 i use the adsbx setup scripts
For shalom2 i use the adsbx custom image
I used the latest v 1.27 code for the adsbx custom image.
I have installed zerotier on shalom2 and joined your network

Please log in remotely to shalom2 and fix things if necessary

Sydney Airport has an overnight curfew for most aircraft traffic
It is currently 0500 local time in Sydney
At 0600 local time the Sydney Airport will open

Great! If you join both Pi to ZeroTier I can see if I can compare why there are so different.

  3. done
shalom1 is part of your network

Just looking at message rates -- seems like either a decoding issue or antenna issue .. I'm leaning towards antenna issue. PM me the logins so I can look at the actual software running and see what's up.

One station getting 65 messages and the other 136 messages .... is one close to RF radiation like a cell tower or other transmitter?

Are they both identical hardware and antenna sky view?

Also notice breaks in the track .. that's signal loss ...

Also there has to be a line of sight issue ...

Notice the 'good' feeder is missing this aircraft ..

  7. Both identical hardware and antenna skyview
    Antennas are 1 metre apart
Not close to RF cell towers or transmitters
Line of sight issue both are above a colour bond metal fence but one is closer to the fence
Perhaps i should move it further away?

That's a little close for antenna but should be ok. Try an experiment for me and swap the SDRs between the Pi. Meaning put the antenna and SDR from the one receiving with the one that's not getting all the planes and vice versa. Also could be bad antenna cable.

My guess you have a bad connection to SDR or antenna. Everything is the same one the Pi. Same dump1090 settings.

Power them off first then swap USB SDR. Is that easily doable?

If that doesn't change anything they we can explore further to narrow it down. As of now just looking at whats running .. I see no reason that they should be so different from software perspective.

  10. Done have swapped SDRs between Pis

Ok it's not the Pi ... now the one that had good positions is now the one with low positions ...

so it's SDR or antenna ....

If I had to go with my gut feeling ... probably bad antenna maybe ... SDR can go bad as well .. sometimes they start to frequency wander

Also Cheers to using ZeroTier network for troubleshooting! This worked great!

Same plane ... PI that used to have good signal now has crap signal

  14. How far apart should antennas be minium?
    I will move them now
Is there anyway to tell if an sdr is bad?
My feelings are based on your expertise perhaps the flightaware prostick dongle is bad and needs replacing?

    What are your thoughts ?

Thanks you for troubleshooting and it is good to know zero tier network works well

You can try swapping the antenna and leaving SDR the same ... if nothing changes with antenna swap then it's SDR ... if it changes then it's either antenna or the cable.

  16. Thanks It changed so I will replace the cable first if that does not work i will replace the antenna

How far apart should antennas be?

I will move the antenna now

I am honestly unsure. Not too close -- 3 meters should be good. Even 2 should be ok

  18. Many thanks James

I have decided to only use one feed for adsb

Can you please remove my custom name and port for shalom2 ?

Therefore this free up a port for another member

I can do that. Having them very close like that really didn't do much good - however if you can get one within 10-50km - then that would MLAT with your current one!
