Hello, I am a visual person and very much enjoy seeing the aircraft silhouettes in addition to the rest of the aircraft/flight info. I am new to the whole Raspberry format and find it pretty confusing. I have moved from an SBS-1eR (because silhouettes refuse to display) to an RPI3 with the FlightAware image, dongle and filter (DPD 1090 antenna from previous setup). Am I correct in thinking that I can use this setup to share and use (ad free) ADSB Exchange and, if so, is there somewhere I can purchase an SD card containing the correct image? I find The Raspberry format to be very confusing and just want to feed and view ADSB Exchange. Thank you for your patience.
This page is gonna stay the same if you feed, it already has all the "premium" features: https://tar1090.adsbexchange.com/ The easiest way is probably the image as described on this forum or on the web page. You'll have to figure out how to write the image to the sd-card for the RPi though.
Thank you Sir. Ok, no problem using Etcher, but I was under the impression that feeding ADSBX would eliminate the ads.
Not sure where you saw that but it is incorrect, we do not have accounts so the map does not know if you feed or not. The ads help pay the bills to keep this service free since we do not accept money to block aircraft like some other companies.
I apologize to all. For some reason I never realized the ads had a count down timer and all is well now. Thank you for your time!
So you are feeding FlightAware and not ADSBx. But you are using ADSBx and complaining that ADSBx has adds that help pay the bills? But you are cool with FlightAware scam and selling you data? Please don't use ADSBx unless you are going to feed ADSBx at least.
I can see how you would feel that way but trust me, that was NEVER my intent. I have never expected something for nothing. I was incorrectly under the assumption that sharing or paying was a part of the ADSBExchange business model when, as I now know, that is not how this all works. Once I get this all figured out I will be more than happy to share with ADSBExchange, just as I have done with CWOP, Planeplotter and VRS...for many years.
Literally, feed ADSBx, we don't ask for monthly subscriptions, there's no fake 'enterprise' account scams, there's no bullshit. ADS-B unfiltered and unblocked. We're not taking free feeder data and obfuscating it for a profit. Feed ADSBx if you have a feeder and are using ADSBx services. https://www.adsbexchange.com/how-to-feed/#scriptmethod SSH into your Pi and run this command. Code: sudo bash -c "$(wget -nv -O - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/adsbxchange/adsb-exchange/master/install.sh)" Then go to /myip and look for 2 green smiles. https://adsbexchange.com/myip/
Feeding ADS-B Exchange now. Two green smileys and one red "No Beast" connection. I think that's OK because I'm feeding via FlightAware dongle, right?
What decoder are you running? When in doubt run this: https://github.com/wiedehopf/adsb-scripts/wiki/Automatic-installation-for-readsb See if that fixes it.
