I recently purchased a kit from amazon with the flight aware pro stick and filter and am using my own Pi B3+. I am prepping and following the setup instructions for the custom adsb exchange image and have a few questions: 1. What is the significance of the user you configure in the "adsb-config.txt"? Is that separate from the SSH user pi/adsb123? 2. Since I'm not using the kit from this website (it was OOS), is there any special configuration needed? The receiver should be the same model as one of the ones from the kit on this website. I dont quite understand the "set serials" part of the guide. Thanks!
Calling it user might be somewhat of a misnomer. If you don't enable MLAT privacy, that's the name that will be displayed on a map with all MLAT participants (locations are obscured by a couple of miles). It's also the name you will be able to identify your feed for the MLAT sync: http://adsbx.org/sync Anyhow choose anything you like. You don't need to set serials unless you want to receive 978 / UAT (requires 2nd SDR).
