Freedar.uk Radar App that looks exactly like ADSB Exchange.

I don't know if you are aware that there is an APP Freedar.uk that has a layout that looks almost exactly like ADSB Exchange but with a few changes. It is set up the same with the same maps and layout. It is changed to add some layers for UK viewers. It does not show near as many planes on the map as ADSB Ex does. It sure appears to me they stole your way of putting up a website to save them the time and effort of doing it themselves. If it is all open sourced unprotected intellectual property that you don't mind if it is copied that is one thing but if they stole it I would go after them. If you want to be nice I would at least shame them into helping you maintain the software and network for this website. I would hope they would help you and make both sites better.

Ben is the guy who runs Freedar. He was stealing the ADSBx feed and rebroadcasting it as his own without crediting ADSBx and at the same time recruiting is own feeders. Ben contacted me saying "I want to setup a private VRS for me and my buddies to watch planes." Basically, long story short, Ben is a lair and tried to pull a fast one.

He wants to make an income off it like Lee from 360Radar UK.

I offered that if he didn't rebroadcast the stream, put the site behind a non-public login (like Radar360), and told his users about ADSBx and why they should feed it - I would let him use the ADSBx global TCP stream. He told me to go fuck myself, more or less.

There's a lot of drama over there, Ben and guy who did most of the dev work on this apps had a big fight, etc, etc.

I confronted him about being dishonest and stealing the ADSBx feed. He got belligerent. So we shut him off and he is one of the reasons we put firewall whitelist at the TCP feed for VRS.

Turning off the VRS TCP stream caused a bunch of complaints and protests. People are over at the VRS forum saying they are refusing to feed ADSBx with VRS until they can get the global data stream back for no cost. I simply don't have time or desire to deal with entitled asinine behavior like Ben or these recent complainers.

Which honestly is fine, VRS feeders tend to have pretty bad data and very laggy timestamps.

Anyone who wants to host a Pi feeder can get hardware for ADSBx if they will set it up and power it. Just use the contact form or send me a message.

I want to make ADSBx the premier unfiltered ADS-B site with top notch data and a vibrant community.

I should also add that Ben's app is just a UI WebView to the mobile VirtualRadarServer website.

ADSBx donates monthly to VirtualRadarServer developer to make sure he has time to develop VRS and improve it - even though Andrew does not necessarily care much for ADSBx use of VRS at the scale we use it, since I send him a lot of "you need to fix this because how it's done is terribly inefficient" emails.

EDIT by James: I figured out how to un-delete Ben (scooby) post.

    ---

Keith first and foremost freedar has not stole anything from ADSBX.. it uses the same software which is VRS virtual radar server which is a free open source software. Free to use by anyone and theres plently of sites that also use it.

secondly james! please dont use freedar as your escape goat because you have setup up firewalls and as a result many of your members aren't happy with what you have done on your own back. all users have to do is read your other posts and they will see just how much you hate VRS feeds and then all they need to do is put 2 and 2 together to see that.

also can i be clear i never told you to go fuck yourself even when you wanted £10,000 a month to use your feed but i guess you forgot to mention that.nor was there any talk about making it private so im not to sure what dream land your living in.also the abuse you claim you got from me when its the other way around you where the one doing the abuse not me.

if as you say i want to make a living off freedar then why the hell is freedar completely free of charge for all to use? clearly out to make an income right there ey?

clearly just like 360radar you find it nessasy to talk shit about freedar just to make yourself look like summit you ent and to get your users to feed your site after many have refused and gone else where but hey welcome to the internet i guess.

feel free to delete this comment which you more then likely will cos you wouldn't want your members to know the truth...but thats fine also.

Ben, Why did you delete your post? So everyone, this is what Dan and I are dealing with at ADSBx on a daily basis. Let me introduce you to Ben the operator of Freedar and also the guy who runs scooby hosting. I guess he's not that creative on the user names.

$10,000 USD not UK Pounds - that is what I quote when a small startup or small commercial business wants to use ADSBx REST API for FOR PROFIT and COMMERCIAL BUSINESS. This also requires that they host feeders for ADSBx, and credit ADSBx as the data source. This is only good for the first year, and after a year we sit with them and figure out pricing based on their business.

That cost is one percent, 1%, the cost that FlightAware or FlightRadar24 charges for their filtered blocked Global feed.

Many startups don't have customers yet, so many times ADSBx will offer the REST API at no charge for the first year. If they host feeders, if they try to support ADSBx in some fashion.

90% of the people we talk to have a big idea they need to figure out before they can go infront of customers, and they can't afford the price of FlightAware or FlightRadar24. A lot of times FA and FR24 won't even respond if they don't think you can pay at least $20,000 a month.

Everyone here knows it costs significant amounts of money to operate ADSBx. I try to be as transparent as I can about the operations at ADSBx.

Ben is throwing around what he's thinks are big numbers to make it seem like Dan and I are getting rich off ADSBx or something of that sort. I assure everyone, that is NOT the case.

Before I started assisting Dan, he was paying at a minimum $10,000 USD per month out of his own pocket on his own credit cards to run ADSBx AFTER donations and google ads. And the costs were growing, Dan was going to shut ADSBx down if we didn't figure out how to make it work. So we had lunch, talked about the issues, myself and many others wrote a bunch of code, and we started asking the COMMERCIAL FOR-PROFIT businesses to license the data they were using.

We partnered with c4ads.org to deploy feeders and help with the costs. We partnered with the United Nations, OCCRP, and many other for-profit and non-profit. Now ADSBx represents the largest unfiltered unblocked tracking site in the world.

ADSBx is doing what nobody else will do - using ADS-B for some good in the world, not just to pad their own pockets.

Thanks to all the feeders who make this happen.

ADSBx gives feeders unlimited access to the global feed via REST API. And soon, ADSBx would like to give unlimited access to historical data. We already provide 1 day a month for free, and only charge cost for bandwidth for the other days.

I'll dig up the emails if anyone here wants to see Ben acting like a douche bag. Ben lied to get the TCP feed, then Ben didn't credit ADSBx for the feed, Ben lied about what he was doing with it, Ben paraded around social media trying to act like the ADSBx stream was your own data, THEN when Ben got caught he lied more. I told Ben the reasons he can't publicly broadcast the ADSBx feed without crediting ADSBx and without tracking who's using it. But Ben decided to be a jackass. So Ben got banned from the TCP feed.

Ben also refused to support setting up feeders to feed ADSBx, or share a stream of his data. Want and want and give NOTHING.

Most of you know I don't mince words. So, fuck Ben. He's a loser.

Here's the post that Ben (scooby) deleted:
