Folks, I feed ADSBx with data and do have my own port. Is there a way to allow a friend to view this data? The address does not appear to be personal when viewed in the browser and the menu option of 'other tracking info' doesn't seem to be available to him. I know how to do this with Flightaware by opening and redirecting a port on my router but currently I am using someone else's connection and don't want to fiddle with their router. Geffers
Just tested on few browsers and even mobile devices, Everything works fine. You can use Zerotier to give access to your device without opening ports on router.
Seems to work if on the same network as feeding device but have asked a couple of friends to try the URL as shown when I access my private port and they just get some other location. Appreciate the FlightAware data is produced locally so ports need to be opened (or Zerotier installed) but thought as the private port seems to show the data after it has been forwarded to ADSBx it might be available publicly. No worries. Geffers
What do you mean? All the custom port does is have your Pi send a specific port at ADSBx that is a receiver. If you are feeding a custom port then just send them to the appropriate ADSBx custom feed server and have them choose your receiver.
My custom port is 51321 aka fairmead - if I go to that via the ADSBx menu my receiver shows up as do the aircraft I am tracking but all my browser shows in the address field is as follows; https://customglobal4.adsbexchange.com/VirtualRadar/desktop.html - and that does not get them to my location. If they enter https://adsbexchange.com:51321/ it times out. They do not appear to get the menu item 'other tracking info'. Geffers
Because that's not how VRS or even the Internet and HTTP or computers work ... https://adsbexchange.com:51321/ There is no server running on port 51321 to serve you anything. https://customglobal4.adsbexchange.com/VirtualRadar/desktop.html And then Menu -> Reciever -> fairmead If you want direct reciever choices then you can suggest this to the VRS developer @ http://www.virtualradarserver.co.uk/
James, I do know that if I send the URL that appears in my browser to someone else it normally appears the same as in my browser, I understand sometimes frames can be hidden plus links and that can change things. I'm not looking for VRS to implement anything, I was merely asking if the custom port could be shown to a friend whilst I was away from home. It appears that the URL from custom ports does not give my receiver but does produce a page that gives the 'receiver' options from the menu. I found this by trial and error and by replies saying it should work. Geoff Lane
I guess we were all confused as to what you were asking. Away from home just go to https://customglobal4.adsbexchange.com/VirtualRadar/desktop.html and then select your receiver from the list ...
