    Hi,

I am planning out a setup to help improve the coverage in my area (Based in KGUP, Gallup NM). I had a few questions that I hadn't seen addressed in the other post so I figured I'd just create a new one.

I have gone through the list of hardware located at the How to Feed page and the Github ADSB reciever shopping list but wanted to clarify some things before jumping in.

    - For the Raspberry Pi 4 do I need the 1,2 or 4 GB version. I assume from the wording on the page of the Pi4B being cheaper than the 3B that either the 1 or the 2GB version would be fine but I just needed to be sure.
    - In regards to the ADSBexchange 5.5dBi 1090/978 N-Type Female Antenna - 24-inch, Is that fine to be mounted outdoors exposed to the elements or do I need to consider some means of protection (PVC pipe?)
    - When using the two receivers I am assuming I just need a splitter going to the appropriate cable to the antenna? i.e. Antenna > Cable > SMA connector splitter > SDR 1 & SDR 2
    - What size SD Card would be acceptable. I have a few 32GB's laying around but if that isn't enough will a 64GB be adequate?

Thanks again and I hope to get all this running soon.

i can only help by saying, what i do use. And that is a 2gb RP 4 model B with 16GB SD card, where 11GB is still free. Works like a charm.

That's good to hear. My hunch was that if a 3B works then a 2GB 4B should do better with twice the RAM.

Memory isn't an issue, 1GB will be enough for a receiver, it could work fine even with half that.

That antenna is meant for mounting it outdoors.

I think even 4 GB cards would be just fine, so yeah 32 GB will work obviously.

In regards to 978, are you in the US?
Outside of the US 978 isn't used, so in that case you wouldn't need a 2nd SDR.

    Hi Wiedehopf,

I am based in the US (KGUP in Gallup, New Mexico), and while my use case doesn't require that I even have 978 if figured I'm already putting up the antenna so I might as well feed it as well. Good to hear on the Memory requirements for both storage and RAM I'll get those items ordered as well. Thanks again for taking the time to respond, whether the 978 works out or not at least 1090 should be fine.

Just jumping in to say that yes, a coax splitter will work just fine *as long as* your antenna can receive both 1090 mhz and 978 mhz. The antenna from the ADSBx store receives both well, just keep that in mind if you're using others.

I use the ADSBx antenna > a very nice coax > a totally generic splitter > filters/SDRs and I'm very happy with reception on both frequencies.

Glad to have more feeders in NM!
