Hi all, I recently was running a Pi 2 with a Nooelec USB RTL-SDR & ADS-B receiver but after moving and misplacing some things, and promising a friend I would help them get setup, I want to start fresh. I just ordered the following, am I missing anything? Raspberry Pi 3 - Model B - ARMv8 with 1G RAM (adafruit) 5V 2.5A Switching Power Supply with 20AWG MicroUSB Cable (adafruit) SanDisk 64GB (amazon) CanaKit Raspberry Pi WiFi Wireless Adapter/Dongle (amazon) RTL-SDR Blog V3 (amazon) Still thinking of the software while I wait for these to come, TIA
Not necessary, 3B has wifi onboard. You can add LNA: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078TBG4H8/ref=psdc_537344_t2_B07G14Q6XX to your list. Software depends on your needs, adsbx image, skybup, custom build... Don't use FR24 image as base.
The 3B+ costs exactly the same on adafruit, so i'd use that because it can also do 5 GHz WiFi. Edit: nvm it's out of stock. You could use the Pi4 https://www.adafruit.com/product/4295 and the fitting power supply: https://www.adafruit.com/product/4298 With the updated firmware the high temperatures seem to be significantly improved. A case that facilitates passive cooling can't hurt though: https://amzn.to/36S79tL Without a case is also fine but plastic cases are not optimal.
@MDA thanks, I'll add that LNA -- also didn't realize 3 had wifi built in. Nothing in this setup will have FR24 related software or hardware. @wiedehopf Ideally 3B+, I added my email for a restock notice. I thought the Pi 4 wasn't compatible with feeding? I also took your advice from a different thread and ordered the RTL-SDR v3. Also, is the Flirc case for 3B worth it?
The Flirc case i linked is specifically for the Pi4. The Pi4 works well for feeding. Well the adsbx custom image doesn't work on it.
I meant the Flirc for 3B (amazon) will it make any difference? For the image, I'm thinking either the adsbx custom or raspbian
