Hello! Plus, anything else to improve my feed?

    Hi folks,

    New to ADSBx, so hello!

I have a CPL/IR (albeit not current) so not a stranger to flying/radio, and earn a living as a Linux tech so hopefully in a decent place to get started.

I've got a 1.2m Pimoroni 1090 antenna on a 6ft pole on the top of my house. It's on a hill, albeit not a huge one at 360ft AMSL antenna height, ADSBx blue stick on a shielded USB extension away from any RF interference and getting good line-of-sight coverage peaking at 257nm. Pi is hard-wired with WiFi disabled and using proper PSU.

Question as a noob feeder really - is there anything additional I can do to make a tangible improvement to what I can currently pick up (except move house to the top of a bigger hill)? I'm smack in the middle of the UK and suspect I've gone as far as I reasonably can, but new to all this so any tips gratefully accepted.

I've attached my graphs if they're any help. Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Alex

ADS-B is line of sight. Have done a theoretical heywhatsthat.com and put it on tar1090?

What is you feeder relay map link?

That's a really helpful link, cheers. And yes, I'm familiar with ADS-B message formats and limitations to a fair extent, and have radio theory sufficient to have passed the ATPL exams so understand why there are blackspots no amount of optimisation is going to help with. Sadly I am devoid of a medical at present so flying myself is currently off the agenda :( It's more that I'm new to this, and old enough to know what I don't know - hopefully.

My feeder is on a [moderate] hill in Leeds, so right in the centre of the UK. The feeder link is: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?feed=D7Enm8HFWQVf

    Thanks,
    Alex

Thanks for all the tips so far folks. I set up a second receiver and mailed it to my brother 300 miles away. It's using ZeroTier as the default gw so has the same internet egress IP as I do.

The 2nd receiver has the coordinates and altitude of my brother's house configured for MLAT, but I have a couple of quick questions if I may:

    1. Is it a bad idea for both receivers to use the same feeder name? They currently do (TOFT, unsurprisingly), but I can change that immediately if it's any cause for concern.
    2. Given that both receivers are feeding ADSBx from the same internet source IP, is there a way that I can see an aggregated view of them using https://www.adsbexchange.com/myip/ at all? Currently I only see the output from my receiver, and whilst I can see my brothers tar1090 via ZeroTier and see his traffic flowing through my gateway, I don't see the aircraft he is picking up using the myip link.

The only build difference is that mine uses the ADSBx image with all the bells and whistles, whilst his was a standard Bullseye install, plus the ADSBx script. Any thoughts gratefully received.

20+ year Linux geek, just new to ADSBx, so be as technical as you need to be.

    Thanks,
    Alex

Bang on the money, thank you very much indeed. I plan to add some further feeders in a couple of remote locations in Scotland thanks to some accommodating friends so this is extremely useful to know.

I have duly sent a donation via the link on the ADSBx page.
