I tried, but don't know how to look up historical flight data without flight numbers and I couldn't find any tutorials online that were helpful. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I would like to know what was flying North and South of 38.884155, -98.855317 on 3/14 around noon CDT. High altitude, leaving jet trails that did not disappear as normal jet trails do. Going back and forth, east and west, at least 8-10 times. Also noticed it again yesterday (3/20), but the pattern was criss-cross this time - NE to SW and NW to SE. Cloud seeding? I'm very curious and want to know who's up there and what they're releasing.
Here's a crappy picture of one end. You can see how the plane is circling back around again. It was impossible to get the entire pattern in a single photo. But it was clear that this same plane had made a very long oval over and over again.
Looks like your pic didn't upload properly. Your coordinates are in the middle of Kansas so most likely it's military, possibly a refueling run during a training exercise. Next time it happens hop on your PC and look at the map here on ADSB Exchange. You can also use the ADSB Flight Tracker app on your phone which connects to ADSB Exchange.
Contrails are 100% atmospheric dynamic in intensity and duration. Ive seen contrails last hours upon hours watching them come from one end of the sky hanging till they went to the other end of the sky. Ive seen them spew out and disappear in seconds, it really is completely depending on conditions at that particular moment and altitude as the aircraft passes by. Your second statement "Cloud Seeding" this is a last resort in the US. and given that the US just had several large scale precipitation patterns move across the bulk of the central and eastern regions of the country, cloud seeding would be zero chance. Cloud Seeding is used when drought like conditions threaten productivity of industries that need precipitation and are a last resort measure due to the components and chemicals involved.
None of you gonna link replay? https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?replay (i don't read this forum section, too much noise for me)
THANK YOU! This is what I found with your replay link: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae066e&lat=38.548&lon=-98.940&zoom=9.0&showTrace=2022-03-14 So, it looks like it WAS "cloud seeding" or whatever they're spraying up there.
It's a military tanker ... they transfer fuel to other military jets for training. As far as the visible trails aircraft have: Jet engines burn kerosene, which is made of Carbon and Hydrogen. The Carbon becomes carbon dioxide, it's an invisible gas. The Hydrogen becomes water which will condense, forming a neatly formed cloud: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud Cloud seeding is something different: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_seeding Now contrails can influence the weather if there are enough aircraft and the conditions are right, at least some studies suggest that. But they're not releasing anything on purpose, it's just a byproduct of every plane with jet engines, be it military or civilian transport from one airport to the next.
^ ^ ^ Yup You can form your own contrail ( in a sarcastic sense ) wait for a cold day, or at least a semi-humid cool day take a huge breath in, open your mouth, make a huge O with your mouth and exhale. PRESTO! Exact same phenomena that creates contrails just occurred right in-front of you. Cold environment gets introduced a concentrated stream of higher humidity warmer air. said moisture condenses and forms a vapor cloud within the warmer air. Just up there, it freezes within seconds, and depending on atmospheric conditions, determines the dynamics of sustaining that Condensation Trail. so much for the chem-trail nutjobs and their logic huh, when your own mouth can produce the exact same phenomena they lose their minds !
