What is the process for adding an aircraft as interesting? I have been feeding for about a month or so and I have seen some "interesting" aircraft over NC that are not tagged. For example I would like to tag https://flight-data.adsbexchange.com/activity?inputSelect=registration®istration=N407NC as interesting. It is the NC State Police. Also another example https://flight-data.adsbexchange.com/activity?inputSelect=registration®istration=N553HD, a local TV station's news helicopter. Carolina Air Care (UNC): https://flight-data.adsbexchange.com/activity?inputSelect=registration®istration=N862NC Also the following, (IBM corporate jet's, heli's): https://flight-data.adsbexchange.com/activity?inputSelect=registration®istration=N790R https://flight-data.adsbexchange.com/activity?inputSelect=registration®istration=N780P
I have to get the VRS backend working again for you guys. What we really need to do is develop a real database to update and then import into the backend. The whole verification, submission, moderation, and all that is going to be horrendous.
I'd vote to add "N879AD" (Tried to link, got flagged as spam. Hex is AC17C9) It's a navy NC-9D, and if you look up its registration number with the FAA it shows up as not existing. Apparently it's a sensor testbed, doing some pretty secret stuff. The Drive did a write up on it, but again, I can't seem to link to it. That sounds interesting to me!
Maybe get a group of us that can add. Logic for If added, cant approve, need 3 people to approved. Much like he linked above, call the craft out, give some tracks that we can look at, any supporting data link (such as the shell companies for Fb eye or Deeehay) and then when 3 others look at the data and verify that it seems plausible or is plausible, then we can approve. The system could be automated. Require minimum data set and supporting links, then a simple "approve" counter. Counter = >2 on db side, then publish, make it happen. Might keep the supporting data for a history if the craft changes (as in the above mentioned 3 letter folks when they change shell companies).
I haven't figured out how to access the VRS backend yet .... I'll move it up the list. I got distracted with all the feeders sending data to the wrong places. Almost done with that - then we got used to track a US senator and all the news outlets picked it up and almost killed the site.
Another specific call out should be "fake" numbers. I know this is not common, and it is actually not fake. But I have seen numerous crafts that are operated by the National Guard. I have verified, lol, black helo's with my own eyes, and have heard ATC doing calls to them based on their association (shiner 74067 clear to the guard ramp). Why do I call them fake? They transmit ADSB with a Hex Code of a very old plane: http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Results.aspx?NNumbertxt=72064 N72064 for a 1948 Luscombe 8A. You can see by the history and the track, turns, speed, this is not a plane. I have personally seen this craft in flight, black, EC130 or a EC145, front 360 camera. This craft transmits the correct SMODE for N72064 as well. The history shows it maneuvering over Camp Swift in Bastrop, and I have heard the call sign for Shiner 72064 (most guard traffic at KAUS is Shiner x) So why I call this fake, is if you were just looking at the data sets available, you could possibly think it is the 1948 Luscombe based on speed and usually activity. Possibly even a advertisement puller. But when I see it fly over my place and look up, I know it's not. Makes me wonder how many of these crafts are registered, valid, and yet don't match the actual craft that they are transmitting. Many of the guard choppers are of this flavor/number scheme. 72xxx and referred to on ATC, but they are not actually N72xxx as everything decodes based on the ICAO.
Actually there are a bunch of Army UH-72s that are mis-coded and I don't think it's intentional. And I'll bet you're N72064 is actually UH-72 08-72064 which is assigned to with C Co 1-108th AVN in Austin. Other examples: hex A72052 Reg 08-72052 hex A72054 Reg 08-72054 hex 168247 Buno 168247 hex 272214 Reg 11-72214 Please post up hexs of anything that isn't what it should be.
As far as what can be classified as interesting, there were some agreed to tags. So if it fits I tag it as such. ATF Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms BIZ Business such as Nike, Coca-Cola CAP Civil Air Patrol CLEB Celebrity-owned ie John Travolta, Oprah, Bill Gates DEA Drug Enforcement Agency DHS Dept of Homeland Security DOD Dept of Defense DOE Dept of Energy DOJ Dept of Justice EMS Medical (medevac) FAA Federal Aviation Administration FBI Federal Bureau of Investigation FED Federal law enforcement FIRE Fire fighting and spotting FISR Federal ISR ISR ISR contractor companies LE Local law enforcement LISR Law enforcement ISR LTA Lighter than air ie balloons and blimps MDFLY Planes used for spray pesticide for Mediterranean fruit flies MISR Military ISR NASA National Aeronautics and Space Administration NEWS News/TV/Radio station NOAA National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration SHOW Air performers/stunt planes SPEC DOD Special Ops TEST Commercial, contractor and future military test aircraft ie Northrop Grumman testbeds, KC-767 operated by Boeing UAV UNIQ special or unique aircraft ie Dreamlifter, Airbus Beluga USCG US Coast Guard VIP Heads of state, foreign govt WRBD "Warbirds" civilian owned old military planes ZZZZ Aircraft not assigned a tag but may need one. Here's a few more Lakotas that have used miscoded hexes... hex...... reg..... 072097 09-72097 072098 09-72098 072100 09-72100 072105 09-72105 072106 09-72106 072107 09-72107 072108 09-72108 072223 12-72233 A72057 08-72057 Don't confuse hex and callsign. N72064 is a callsign, not a hex. There are a number of Lakotas using callsings starting with N [eg N72134], and many more starting with 011 [eg 01172126], no matter which FY it is. I'm also seeing what appear to be transponder hexes not being recoded after a box swap, so you get a hex/callsign mismatch with reg.

There is something screwy going on with the database. It seems like none of the updates I've been making since Friday or Saturday are being applied. Currently seeing N274SY which I updated a few days ago, but no details are showing.
We have faith in you that it will be figured out. Thanks for your efforts and hard work making this site even better.
The database is normally updated every 24-48 hours, as I understand it. It appears that this hasn't happened for a few days.
Just looked at the INTERESTING list and came across an error for one of the aircraft shown. N11TV, Hex A02B97, B06, Listed as ABC 11 WTVD News New York City. WTVD ABC11 is actually in Raleigh NC and their helo is N36CC. In New York City, WPIX is channel 11, a CW-affiliated television station licensed to and owned by Tribune Broadcasting. And, while ABC11 WTVD's N36CC should be listed as interesting it currently is not. The same company owns both helos (Helicopters Inc, Cahokia, IL) according to the FAA database.

First of all, thanks ADMIN and others for updating several of the planes I listed as interesting in the database. Here is one from today I'd like to see changed to interesting (at least to those of us in NC) N645FD, Hex A8784F, LJ45, Family Dollar Stores, Charlotte NC User Tag Biz

Wondering if Freqhopping or Skymaster could tell me why USAF 92-9000 ADFDF9 Operator Code AF1 isn't listed as interesting? Just curious
