This looks interesting. 1982 LET L-39 Albatros GAUNTLET AEROSPACE LLC It doesn't say it's military. Is this used by the military? https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=a25680
Miliary contractor. Pretty common these days. There are 2 old Hawker Hunters with N number tails based at MCBH near me for example, Lookey here: Just popped up https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=a37d42
wow. they're old. i"ve never heard of those models before. I don't know planes as much as I know trains. Are military contractors used in war too? Fighting on behalf of the US military?
Nope. Training, observation, range clearing for live fire exercises, missile launch monitoring, radar calibration, Red Team opponents, ISR, etc. Everything but combat.
when you mean Red Team opponents does that mean when the military is practicing wargames they play the role of the enemy?
im looking now live at this plane ... 14:32pm { 2;32 pm } eastern u.s time dec 1 2022 --> its also on flightaware just to double check https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=a37d42
Thanks for that info. I hadn't realised the Swiss Hunters have gone to the USA...link. A name search on FAA Inquiry for 'Hunter Aviation International Inc' will find their details.
There's at least two L39s here in Europe as well, also civilians working as military contractors (at least I think - they keep circling over training areas). Fun fact: they broadcast a slightly different tail number than the one actually painted on the tail. Posted about the plane here: https://www.adsbexchange.com/forum/threads/aero-l-39zo-albatros-having-fun.634934/ The guy financing a bunch of commercial crewed space flights, Jared Isaacman, also owns a bunch:
