I was up pretty late Friday night/Saturday morning, Oct 21/22. I was watching this unknown type aircraft, and it was showing a callsign of N8588L. This shows up as a 1969 Piper PA28. This was being spotted just to the south of Dane County Regional Airport (KMSN) in Madison, Wi. Looking at the track and elevation and speed, I was led to believe it was a drone? I dont know much about registering a drone, so was just wondering about this. This was going on for a few hours. Would disappear and re-appear. Did not hear any activity related to law enforcement min the area... I was just curious.. Thanks, Kevin G.
Not likely a drone. N8588L is a PA-26, not a PA-28. The PA-26 (Piper Pawnee) is typically used as a "crop duster". Its position, altitude, and groundspeed over a residential area could simply be bogus due to issues of hobbyist ADS-B reception.
Ok thanks for your thoughts on this. It was strange to see this at 1:30am in the morning though... Thanks again..
Interesting that the Hex doesn't match the registration in the FAA database. Probable miscoded transponder.
So ADSB is showing another type of a/c or whatever, just south of Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, WI again today (11-3) This time callsign being used is N2045D, a 1968 glider. same location as before.. Just finding this unusual.....
