    On January 17, 2023 at 10:36 am, a small plane crash occurred outside of Yoakum, Texas, resulting in the deaths of four people, including the owner of a national saddle company based in Yoakum. One person was hospitalized in stable condition. The crash took place as the plane was headed to the Yoakum Municipal Airport to land.

    Emergency personnel arrived at the crash site, located near County Road 462 and Farm-to-Market Road 318, and remained there for several hours following the 10:49 a.m. crash. The aircraft involved in the accident was a Piper PA-46-350P Malibu Mirage JetPROP DLX, with the tail number N963MA. The plane impacted the terrain about 1 mile southeast from the threshold while on approach to runway 31 at Yoakum Municipal Airport (T85).

    The pilot and three passengers sustained fatal injuries, and the last passenger was seriously injured. The Piper aircraft was built in 2008 and it was certified to fly that November, according to FAA records. It is owned by SCT Enterprises, of Germantown, Tennessee, according to the FAA.

    Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators were dispatched to the crash site, but they may not begin the investigation until Wednesday. The cause of the accident is currently unknown.
