I'm in a urban area with lots of helicopter traffic that doesn't always appear on the server. At the moment I am running just a single RTL-SDR with the Pi image and it was super easy to set up and get going to use receiving 1090 MHz.

I want to try at least temporarily using my one receiver for 978 instead of 1090. I am trying to follow the instructions here but my installation doesn't have the “/etc/rc3.d/S01fadump1090.sh” file. Can someone tell me how to stop the 1090 process from grabbing the rtlsdr device so I can see what, if anything, is coming through on 978?

EDIT - I guess one more reboot did it? I am seeing some helicopter traffic on 978 now.

Thanks, yeah that is the image I am using (well I guess a slightly older version - I see it was updated today) and it is really nicely done. Somehow using the web interface alone I wasn't able to get a 978-only feed to work so I tried the command line stuff. Anyway I'll go ahead and update and start from scratch. And I've just ordered things to get a dual feed going!

978 can be even more picky about proper power to the pi / SDR.

If you're still having trouble with the 8.0 image you loaded today, please let me know and put the readsb and dump978-fa log from the systeminfo page onto pastebin and link it here.
Though hmm low post count so not sure stupid spam limitation will alow.

Anyhow you can the logs in system info maybe you can figure it out if it's not going.
    You disable readsb / 1090 and enable 978 / dump978-fa
