I'm just curious what cases people use for the Raspberry 3 and what temperature the Pi is reporting. Currently I'm using the case pictured together with the heatsinks that came with it. The average temperature is about 60 degree (C). Oddly enough, if I run the same setup on my Pi 400 the average temperature is almost half of that.
I'm using quiet cheap active cooling (aluminium heatsink + fan) on two RPi 3 and one RPi 4 here, all of them stay between 40-45 degree.
Yes, I do have a Pi 400 as well but currently use the Pi 3 for adsbx. The Pi 400 only goes to 30 degree C on the same location as the Pi 3 which goes to 60 degree C
I use the same black case as you in the opening post. Just with some extra holes drilled in it so the fan can blow the hot air out of the case.
I'm using a Pi 4b so not quite apples to apples, but with the Argon Poly+ case and the standard heat sink I was averaging 63-64C and spiking occasionally to 70C or so. I've switched it to an Argon One v2 case (aluminum, the whole case acts as a heat sink, plus it has a fan) and I'm now down to mid-30s, spiking to about 40C occasionally.
