I'm currently adapting an Arduino project to make it use the new REST API for retrieving nearby air traffic (distance < 25 NM, usually returns < 15 aircraft). In order to be nice to the API server: what would be an appropriate (and meaningful) interval between sending these '/dist/25/' API queries? Thanks, Paul
Are you possibly working on the PlaneSpotter ESP8266 app? I could use some help with what code to change for the new API. I have my feed up and running from PiAware.
No, my project is for esp32 and a slightly larger display, but I know that app by Daniel Eichhorn. Attempts to post the required changes to his code were all blocked for being recognized as 'spam-like' (why???), so feel free to PM me if you need specific help.
No more than every 5 seconds, and you may still get stale data from the edge now and then. 10 seconds is preferred.
It's form spam prevention until you have a few posts. wrap in Code: preferably post a github snip or repo
Thanks James, 10 seconds will be perfect. Good to know why my post was blocked, even after I removed all code.
Ah. That is good to know. My idea was to use a retrieval interval between 20 and 25 seconds to that should be good. Uhm. I don't want to sound impatient, but I requested a key via the contact form about a week ago. I wonder if that came through at all, the form just cleared after I hit submit. I also can imagine you people having been very busy with server upgrading and stuff.
I'm blasted with fools nonstop all day .. there's probably 20 people in the queue for API keys. I might get to them by the weekend. It's hard to track down who's a hedge fund asshole pretending to be an enthusiast and who's not.
I see. Thank you for responding James. There's no fire here and no people dying without that key . I wonder what a hedge fund would like to do with aircraft data, but what do I know, I am just a simple techie, not a magician juggling other's people's money
Nothing enough that they shouldn't be supporting ADSBx in exchange for using the data. Greasy tightwads .... the lot of them
@James I would respectfully like to inquire if you have made any progress with processing API key requests. I requested the key about 2 months ago. I wonder whether you are still extremely busy, or I might have not correctly filled in and sent off the form.
Ow... that's a lot. Good luck with that. As per you request I just made a new request via the contact form. I hope you get to see it. And now you have 161 e-mails, I am afraid. Sorry :|
