Folks, Curiosity, in the past when I have used Global View a rectangular advertising box appeared for either 20 or 30 seconds at which point users could then close it. Now I seem to get a very brief view and it disappears immediately. Is there a reason for this? Geffers
Good evening all. New to the forum but not new to ADSBx. Yes, what’s with the advertising? A while back we did have the initial advertising banner across the bottom of the screen that we could hide after 20 seconds, but now it has been replaced by a large random advert at the top of the list pane to the right of the map which pushes the list to the bottom of the page. No option to close or hide it. So why the intrusive advertising suddenly, with seemingly no option to dismiss it, no option even for an ad-free premium version unless I’m missing something.obvious. Nobody likes adverts right? Particularly the invasive type that interferes with the enjoyment of the website. Is it because ADSBx needs revenue to function? If it does, then why not offer an ad-free premium version, I expect a majority of dedicated users would rather pay a small fee than have to tolerate annoying ads that can’t be closed.
We floated the idea of 'no ads' for a small annual free. It was rejected angrily by majority of users who contacted and ADSBx was accused of being greedy. Those 'users' literally flamed and raged at us, calling us every name in the book and insulting us. Called us greedy for offering a free service, and saying we must be too stupid to monetize a service that isn't data mining you or selling obfuscation services and making millions a month. It is what it is. People seem to be consistent assholes to ADSBx while loving getting fucked by the commercial sites. It is what it is. "What with ads?" Implementing a user system, passwords, logins, billing, dealing with assholes, dealing with scammers, and monitoring support for those who forget passwords, can't login, or want refunds. We can better use our time to things that don't make more work for us.
Thanks James, interesting reply. Goes to show it’s not possible to please everyone, even by offering options. Personally, I hate ads, particularly on sites where I esteem some value in the site without ads interfering with the displayed information. They spoil the experience. However, I do get what you say about the need for login details and all that extra effort, balanced against a bunch of people who want everything for free. It will be those who don’t care that it costs to run something like this, and they will call you the greedy asshole for making that point. That’s why pay sites exist, everyone loves free stuff but few things in life are free. Rather strangely though, the view on my iPad using the safari browser includes the ads, but the view on my work laptop using chrome browser doesn’t include the ads, despite both being on the same Wi-fi network. I don’t know why, I’m not an expert.
You probably have an adblocker? Not sure it also seems to dynamically decide which ads to show ... Also it should be noted that you can scroll down in the list and the ad should just slide off the screen, no?
