Having been on the paying side of PayPal only, I don't how much money actually gets 'lost in transaction'. Therefore I wonder: would a single yearly donation of $amount x 12 be more beneficial to you than $amount every month? Given the amount of hardware necessary to run this, a donation is not unreasonable. The site lists 'monthly donations' as an option. I don't know how PayPal works but I know regular banks (at least here) charge a fixed fee per transaction. Also PayPal states that me paying you from Europe involves a conversion fee. Although I like PayPal, I'd like to optimize where my money ends up.
I read about a fixed €1.99 conversion fee, so I decided to donate $amount x 6. PayPal's confirmation suggests that they use a fictive exhange rate in order to effectively charge € 1.99 per transaction.
Yeah we need to look at fees and find something that has low fees. There's likely a lot of $3/mo donations that get eaten up completely in fees.
Not really. Honestly the best thing you can do for ADSBx is get the word out about hosting feeders and even sponsor those who would be good hosts but can't afford the hardware.
OK, thanks. My first feeder has been rock solid for several weeks now so at least that's helping the project already. I'm looking to get a second feeder up and running (we've covered the details of that on another thread) so will focus on that for now.
