Not sure, The CH-53D and AH-1Z Marine squadrons were disestablished in April 2022, and the announcements were that the helos were being sent to mainland units. There are only 3 squadrons left at MCBH - 2 - MV22B and one drone squadron. It was cloudy yesterday so I could occasionally see them a few miles away. I was guessing they might be new H-60S's, since I know a specific "Whiskey" simulator was built on base 18 Months ago. One obscure view looked like an AH-1Z, but I haven't seen one here in quite a while, and as I said, that squadron is gone, so the hunt continues.
would the H-60's be a Blawkhawk? So they are still being made? I wasn't aware they're still in production.
Still being made in special versions like the "Whiskey". Sikorsky HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopter | Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky HH-60 Pave Hawk - Wikipedia
so Whiskey is what they say instead of Black Hawk? or do they call them Pave Hawks? I see they have Jolly Green 2's being built.
The Pave Hawk is the G version of the same 60 series. Whiskey is what the HH-60W were called B4 being called JG2's by the USAF. (HH-60W, as in Whiskey when the maker was trying to sell them to DoD) when the new simulator was being built at MCBH. Black Hawk was the original H-60 variant for the Army. Further confusion on my part is that is the USAF that is buying the Whiskeys, so why is there a simulator at MCBH where only Navy and Marine units are based? No USAF units based here. Navy has a P-8 squadron at MCBH / NGF and is a sometimes host for "special" P-3s. hint hint.
