Saw something similar yesterday off Massachusetts. The local media is reporting a series of explosions were heard along the north shore. Maybe this was an aircraft searching.
Call sign indicates it was a NOAA aircraft.

I saw something like this a few days ago in Germany. The ownership of the plane indicated a company specializing in aerial photography and photomapping.

But I admit, it could be SAR as well. (Although I read somewhere the search patterns were different, more box-shaped)

im curious why 2 Canadian and a Mexican registered aircraft are doing this in tandem with two US registered aircraft.

isnt that just south of Oak Ridge National Lab also?

Those were my thoughts exactly. And Oak Ridge is under the green paths, just west of Knoxville.

which IIRC is Restricted Airspace since OakRidge is a National Security Site.
