Not strange for MLAT. MLAT depends on your coverage, and overlap with other feeders. More range, more MLAT 'health' data points.

Map on image is openlayers based, edit the js file and add whatever layers you want. Map on ADSBx is VRS based. VRS is a dumpster fire.

    Code:

    /usr/share/dump1090-mutability/html/layers.js

You can write whatever UI you want based on the dump1090 output json in /run/dump1090-mutability

Feeding ADSBx shouldn't slow your Internet, but it does use around 20kbps, maybe more if busy airspace - less if not.

    https://github.com/adsbxchange/adsbexchange-stats

    cd /home/pi
    git clone https://github.com/adsbxchange/adsbexchange-stats.git
    cd adsbexchange-stats
    chmod +x install.sh
    sudo ./install.sh

Install this. ADSBx /myip will detect stats, and provide a link with a uuid.

    Use that UUID on http://www.adsbexchange.com/api/feeders/tar1090/?feed=<youruuid>

Here is my feed, but this is coming to the newest image releases and for all feeders that install above scripts in the near future.

I cloned the repo and installed the script, when visiting /myip I'm not sure if it's displaying a uuid

**EDIT** I needed to reboot to see it, also the antenna I have from the RTL-SDR Blog V3 kit was fully extended with some space between the two poles, I collapsed them and put them close together and now I see my MLAT stats at 91% health.

The length of the dipole from end to end needs to be 5.35 inches.

Use the short rods supplied with the antenna.
Make sure the antenna is in the correct orientation, it needs to be pointing straight up with one end and down with the other.

The provided coax is not very good on 1090 MHz and really you want a proper ADS-B antenna.
But you can try connecting the dongle directly to the short coax at the dipole.

    - antenna: https://store.adsbexchange.com/products/5-5dbi-1090-978-antenna
    - coax: https://amzn.to/31xFkDM

Be sure to specify -10 as gain setting with your setup, that's the maximum possible.
(no it doesn't make sense but believe me that's how it works. highest gain -10, second highest gain 49.6 .... down to 0)

Not sure where the gain is configured for this image.

Thanks wiedehopf, I have the same version of that antenna but with FA branding I ordered a few years ago (never used it), I assume it's the same? Just need that coax cable.

One thing that happened overnight, I can't ssh back into my pi, it says connection refused -- trying to load the local map, grafana, or even the ip landing page with the 3 options doesn't display. Yet I'm still feeding into adsbx with 92% health and my adsbx tar1090 page is still actively updating -- how do I avoid this happening again? Only solution right now would be to reboot the pi, correct?

No clue why you can't connect.
    Maybe the IP has changed?

Yes rebooting is the easiest solution.

Remember that on adsbx image SSH port is 3226 not 22.

or your LAN assigned a new IP.

I did try port 3226 and even ran a portscan on my network but the Pi wasn't detected, yet still feeding -- weird. Rebooted and it survived the next night, so maybe a glitch in the matrix.

Unable to view anything. Getting "Not valid UUID"

If you are using the ADSBx image then use the local LAN IP of your feeder in a browser. There is a splash page with links to local map and dashboard.

Dashboard featured in the first page of this thread is only available on the ADSBx custom image.

Logins are on the first page of this thread.

As for ADSBx Stats link. It is detecting your feeder sending compressed stats data, so uuid should be valid. Interesting ...

Send me your uuid link above. [email protected]

So my Pi is unreachable again somehow but still feeding into ADSBx

Any idea why this might be happening @James? Not a deal breaker, as long as it's feeding but nice to be able to ssh in (without unplugging and replugging)

    cheers

is it local or remote? Seems more like a network issue on your end than something with the image. I've never seen this before, maybe a bad SD card doing wonky stuff?

Apologies for delay -- on my local network, I bought everything brand new for this ADSBx image from the Pi to the SD. It's still feeding successfully, just unable to connect or see it with nmap (very weird). I guess it's not a big deal as long as it's feeding. If I need to login remotely I'll just reboot.

That's shouldn't happen, there's hundreds of these deployed without issues like this.

It must be my home network, I do have a Spectrum router.... I'll look for some error messages when I connect a monitor and keep you apprised. Thanks again.

    Hello,

    Thanks MDA for the following:
Is the link typically a sticky on the first post? If not, would there be an easy way to find the latest version? Right now it took me a while to find the link which feels wrong.

Thanks! looking forward to run this image. I really like the dashboard. I will work on a radar representation of aircraft. Maybe a widget that could be added to the dashboard if I get it to work. Not a display on a map that others do already, but a old style CRT / PPI radar sweep, likely monochrome.

    Cheers,

    L'Barouf

Have you seen this? It may be similar to what you are looking to do:

Wow, that is perfect. I was thinking of integrating that into the dashboard, but that is indeed the general idea of what I was thinking of. I guess I don’t have to do anything. Thanks!
